I was having such a hard time believing in myself that I “quit” music for 2 years. I even planned out what I’d tell my mom if I didn’t make it. But I didn’t stop writing. I couldn’t. It was my therapy. But I did stop releasing music. Until now!

I held on to this song for years because I had to process feeling not ‘good enough’ to make it; not ‘good enough’ to even try. A part of continuing to work through that feeling is to release the song. This song means a lot to me, and if it means a lot to me, there’s a high likelihood that it’ll mean a lot to someone else!

This song has continued to help me work through my own demons, years after it was written.

How It Was Written

A couple years ago in Idyllwild, CA, I started writing “Famous” on my guitar, alone in my room. I wrote the chords and then the melodies followed. Then I started singing gibberish lyrics until I really felt what I wanted to say. Then everything poured out.

I invited David Stewart to help me finish the lyrics once I felt the melodies and chords were solidified. He helped me take it across the finish line. I was so excited with how it turned out!

Then I brought it to my long time friend and amazing producer, Jordan Sherman, who listened to the acoustic recording and helped me turn it into the absolute rock-anthem that it is. My inner teen would be SO proud… head banging and crying at the same time as she listened to “Famous” on the bus ride to school.

My favorite mix and mastering engineer, Jaime Estalella put the bow on top, finalizing the song and making it sound perfectly balanced.

Voice Notes

These are imperfect voice recordings of “Famous” as it was being written. While I’m writing, I’m always recording on my phone to capture special moments. It’s always so interesting to go back once it’s finished and hear the song’s journey!

David and I played around with melodies, lyrics, timing, rhythm, everything… I title my voice notes something that helps me keep track of what specifically to pay attention to when listening back.
